Examine the efficacy of parent interventions to prevent college student drinking in first year students.

Full description

The aims of the study are to:

  1. efficacy of parent interventions to prevent college student drinking in first year students;
  2. examine mediators of efficacy; and
  3. examine moderators of efficacy.

parent handbook to increase the quantity and quality of communications about alcohol
Treatment:
Behavioral: parent handbook
parent handbook with boosters
Experimental group
Description:
boosters are given to parents at three times (move in, visit weekend; student visits home)
Treatment:
Behavioral: parent handbook
parent handbook delay
Experimental group
Description:
parent handbook is delayed and given after semester has begun
